Fortuna Forest Reserve has 58,185-acre (19,500-hectare) is one of the most extensive mid-elevation cloud forests in Central America. Located in the western highlands of Panama, the reserve protects more than 1,000 plant species and boasts one of the best bird watching in the country.
For bird watchers they love this place because in this forest they can see birds that they have on their lists, for hikers it is a good place for hiking because of the stunning views, rivers, waterfalls and of course its biodiversity in flora and fauna.
This place is excellent for species research for Biology students. The Smithsonian Tropical Institute has a small research station within the reserve. Founded in the 1970s, the station helps measure the effect of infrastructure, including the basin, the oil pipeline, and a nearby highway, in the reserve.
In the place there is a community or village called Hornito, there are several places to spend the night, but we can recommend the Jilguero Eco-Retreat cabins, excellent for connecting with nature. Bird watchers comment that just sitting on the balcony of the cabin could observe 40 species of birds.
